Clearing Energies

I saw this today on Facebook and can certainly vouch this is true. It doesn’t mean the item is haunted forever,  or even that it’s a bad thing (I will come back to that).
There are so many ways to cleat negative energy,  and most witches have their favorites.  For example, of I am clearing my house or my space, I will smudge with sage.  If I am clearing an object is salt water or lemon. I know a few that use running water like a stream,  or in the ocean,  even some that use fire or just candle flame. Really the choice is yours.
In the event of an object I like to use lemon I will use salt water if I have no lemon, works just as well. Or lemon salt water if you would like.  I have used each of these means and to be honest if you mediate for a minute and listen the Goddess and your instincts will tell you what to do.
One lemon, cut on half, is perfect.
White and Blue candle
For all my workings, I chose to use my alter when  I can.  This is my clean and sacred space where I can work uninterrupted.
First light incense, this will help lift your prayers and request to the Goddess as well as clear the air of any lingering energies.
Light a candle, or if you have it, two. White for protection and light,  and blue for calming, understanding and healing. Many chose to light a black candle as ut helps absorb negative energy. (Good if you feel the energy or spirit is malicious).
These two things,  although not necessary, help create the environment and focus your energies on the task at hand.
Once  ready take the item you wish to cleanse in your hands.
Imagine the spirit or energy as a flowing moving ball if color wrapped around the object. Engulfing it entirely.
Once you can visualize the energy you can take your cut lemon to the object.
Rub the lemon (cut side on the object) in small counter clockwise circles. As you do so, see the colored energy breaking apart. Splintering and shattering before disipating into nothing. Evaporating into the as it around you. No longer whole, no longer powerful, free to move about and be released into the world.
Continue this cleaning and rubbing until the colored energies has been completed scrubbed off every inch and nook of the object.  (For odd shapes you can’t reach, squeeze lemon juice into the air to melt the energy away.)
You can say a spell as you do this to help enhance your workings if you like. Mine is pretty simple:

From this object I ask to flee
Any energies that have cling to thee
Release yourself and just be free
As I will it, so mote it be

I continue this simple chant and semi circular cleansing until I can no longer see the energy clinging to the object, or feel energy other than my own in the object.

For good measure I pass the object through my incense smoke and ask the Goddess to hear my prayers and cleanse this item so I may use it for my own purposes. I meditate briefly and thank the Goddess before concluding my ritual, blowing out my candles and leaving my circle.

I let the lemon juice sit until I want to use the object, at which point I will rinse off the lemon if it is sticky feeling.

I mentioned earlier about leaving the energies. Not all energies, and spirits, are bad. Some make you feel good, make you feel more powerful and can aid your magic (ancestral magic is a great example). You can chose to keep the energies in the item so long as you are aware it could effect the object and it’s ability to hear and do your bidding as opposed to the other beings.

Another example of lemon magic.

Infused Oils

Two days ago I gave you the Exhilaration Elixir formula. Pretty easy right? I was amazed at home simple a portion (or tincture) could be. Several of these things on their own can  bring about changes and carry magical properties, the blends are what help bring them to life. These mixes are great as stand alone items or in conjunction with your spells. Infused Oils and Salves are just as easy.

An infused oil is simple 1 part herb of choice for certain use and 3 part oil. Don’t worry, the type of oil is really not that particular. Coconut, grapeseed, mineral oil, olive oil (heck even vegetable oil) doesn’t matter just about what you have. Some oils do have their own smell though. These oils can then be used as anointing oils, dressing oils, or for daily use for a variety of things. They can also be used next to make salves (which I will get into later in the week).

One of my biggest concerns as a new witch was that everything has to be so specific, so perfect…I’m here to tell you it doesn’t. You are the key to your own magic and the tools are your aides. Don’t let “having the right things” stop you from practicing your religion or your rituals.

Like I mentioned early on in my posts using the moon and seasons can increase the potency of your magic but don’t let that stop you from bringing magick into your every day.

Exhilaration Elixir

So like I mentioned earlier I have been fortunate enough to get to go to apothecary classes with Elderberry Spirits. For the last two weeks, we were focusing on herbal medicines. At the start of the meeting, she had me try a tincture and tell her how it made me feel.

I took three drops on the tongue of the deep red elixir and waited. It was a very quickly warm tingly and then a giddy happiness just kind of spread over me. Enough so that it made me laugh out loud. This so far has been one of my favorite things. So I just had to share this simple recipe with you.

1/2 tsp Cinnamon

1/2 tsp Dried Basil

1/2  tsp Dried Hibiscus (you can’t get this normally mixed in with the Mexican spices)

3 tsp Brandy (or Apple Cider Vinegar or Vodka)

Let sit for 1 week and then use 2 to 3 drops on tongue as desired for a quick pick me up

Religious tolerance is hard

Walking into the Baptist church today, yep that’s right,  felt mildly uncomfortable. I avoid churches and general organized religion. As you may have guessed,  they aren’t my thing.  I walked timidly down the hallway waiting to catch fire, our melt, but nope. I expect it subconciously every time I go to churches, which is pretty regularly. (Why you ask?  -Backstory-)
I have been practicing since before my children were born but normally behind closed doors, or at night, up until the last few years.  I didn’t want to push any beliefs on my children, even my own.
Around the age of four my son began asking if we could go to the church near our house. At that time I worked weekends so that wasn’t going to work out. He began asking about heaven,  talking about God and inquiring about angels.  Oh goodness. At that moment I had to think real hard about what I told him, and make a choice.  I could teach him the traditions I follow, I could teach him Christianity, or I could hide in my closet until he forgot about the whole Jesus. After I ran out snacks, I realized the closet wasn’t a viable option.
I grabbed my boy and said let’s talk about your questions about God. (He had tons) I told him that people believe many things but I would help him learn everything. So I did and man oh man…that boy loves him some Jesus! Now when he was a young kid it was trying. A witch teaching bible study time, gospel cds and church when I could facilitate. Then tucking in my little so I could do my own rituals. Wierd. Now I am open with my religion and have taught them and included them when I could. He is still very much a Christian though so it’s interesting.
I am fairly open though now that my children are a little older.  I offer to include them in my rituals and holidays but always allow my son to vary his blessings. He instead days his as a pause to God, my other son calls to Grandfather and the Ancient Ones (his Mamaw worships with Native Americans) and I to my Goddess. We accept that our higher powers have different names.
So while I may not agree with his “holy book”, I will always encourage my son to be spiritual. I will take him to church and youth group and bible study. I encourage all of my kids to learn everything they can and then they can choose their religion just as I did.

Most Magic isn’t Big

So over the course of the waxing moon, as you read in the previous blog post, I’ve been doing a money magic spell. I did it every night before bed, with the exception of the burying I only did that the very first time. I put all my positive energies into it, and I will say it was successful. Still maybe not in ways that would be easy to see right off the bat. Like for example, the day after my boss randomly gave me a Starbucks gift card. He didn’t even say why he gave it to me,  just give me it and walked away.  I didn’t think much of it, but that was twenty bucks that I didn’t have to spend on coffee this week. The next day I found a $5 bill in a pair of pants that I had washed a couple days earlier. A coworker bought me lunch so I didn’t have to buy lunch. Several random quarters and dimes I found around the house also. I bartend so I figured those were just lost over time, but a part of the spell does read “money find, money mine” so maybe it was helping me find money. This week, when I was stressing most about money, I found $80 that I had somehow misplaced in a bag of garbage from my car.  For some reason I had taken the bag into my bedroom instead of throwing it away immediately. I I used that to buy groceries and a few necessary items.  In addition, my ex covered our son’s football registration (well his mom did) something he hasn’t done with any of the sports that our son is done yet. My paycheck from the bar that I work at was $40 more than normal, and despite really dismal sales, myself and fellow bartender made above-average tips. All of these things were like ‘that’s cool, hey bonus situation’.  In the course of the last week and a half, I’ve come into $350 that I didn’t plan on having. It wasn’t some big giant windfall, or lottery winnings, but still a fair amount of money that I didn’t have to come up with. Some was just money that was lost that had returned to me.
Magic isn’t like what you see on the craft where she changes her eye color, her hair color, they fly around… that’s not it.  A lot of things that you’re going to do, and that you’re going to practice, aren’t going to be big huge noticeable things. You might have to actually think about it. Something feels different,  there’s a change in your confidence level. You get an unexpected phone call. Someone buys you lunch and save you money.  Little things, and maybe that just has to do with how much available energy is around. Maybe it has to do with how much energy you can summon. Maybe if I was a better witch, I could summon large amounts of energy to me.  I don’t think so though. I don’t think that’s the nature of it. I think  it’s a partnership with the Goddess, and with the universe around us. You have to put in your own effort to create the destiny you want to manifest. For example, if you do a ritual to get a promotion or get a raise but then you never ask your boss for a raise, or show interest in advancing in your career, it’s not going to happen. We have to take the first step.  Even if you have magic to help with the other steps. I was just reflecting on it on my drive home and thought I would share with you guys my final results.

Blessed be

Love spells

So the waving moon is a great time to attract love.  Truth be told,  my husband and I are fighting right now.  Matter of fact he said he wants to leave me.  I do not share the same sentiments.  I thought,  I will do a love spell, I will bind him to me.  Then almost immediately I thought against it. I’ll tell you why. Never have I performed a love spell, and for a variety of reasons.  (Okay one time, I asked for my true love to find me and for me to be ready, and I fell for my best friend and now husband). There are some love spells-such as finding a new love,  letting go of a past and blessing a marriage that I feel okay with-spells that violate some ones choices are not okay in my opinion.  There are reasons my husband wants to leave me,  things he feels.  Magic to sway his feelings is taking away his free will and creating something that is gone.  That is not my place through magic.  Only hard work and communication can heal my marriage.  Force and magic won’t do it.  Instead I will ask for enhanced communication,  empathy and understanding on my behalf and pay for harmony to restore what has been lost.  If you are looking for love spells on my page you will not found them.

Waxing moon spell for money

Here is a quick and easy money spell that relies heavily on sympathetic magic. (The power and meaning we give to charms objects or other associations) Tonight I did a variation of this spell (I also planted a dollar bill with basil seeds because basil attracts wealth). I shall keep my blessed coins in my green cinnamon laced bag near me or on me until the full moon.
